Today we explain in detail the knowledge of the fonts that we need to know before printing.

First, the Founder font and its application in PSPNT

Peking University is the first organization in China to engage in research and production of Chinese computers. In China, more than 70% of Chinese print uses the Founder font. The Founder fonts are in line with the national pen-shaped norms, and twice passed the appraisal of national authoritative organizations, and are widely used by government departments, education departments, and news publishing organizations. Due to the large variety of Founder fonts, in order to enable you to better use PSPNT, we first briefly describe the products below and their application in PSPNT.

Founder fonts have TrueType (also known as display fonts or front-end fonts) and Postscript (also known as the fonts of the delivery fonts or back-end fonts). Postscripts are divided into two types, Type0 compound fonts and CID fonts.

TrueType front-end display font

Refers to fonts installed on the typesetting host for on-screen display (display fonts can be used in software such as Feiteng, books, WORD, etc., but non-Founder software cannot use 748-code fonts). The fonts used in Feiteng's layout are display fonts. Commonly used are 748-character, GB, GBK, BIG5, and large font sets.

Fang Zhenglanting: It can be used as a standard TrueType font on the Windows 95/2000 platform. It is suitable for all common software and Founder software on the Windows platform. Provide GB, BIG5 and GBK three encodings.

Founder: It can be applied to the MAC TrueType font on the MAC platform and applies to all common software on the MACOS platform, providing both GB and BIG5 encoding.

On the PC platform can be installed Fangzhenglan Pavilion font type design, on the MAC platform can be installed Fangzhe hand fonts for typesetting design.

Postscript back-end delivery font

Refers to the fonts used to issue the back-end output settings (such as imagesetters, printers), also known as PS fonts (such fonts are installed on back-end RIP software such as PSPPRO, PSPNT). The delivery font cannot be displayed on the screen. Founder fonts can be divided into 748, GB, GBK, BIG5, and large font sets according to their different encodings.

There is a one-to-one correspondence between Founder's fonts and Founder's display fonts.

The rhyme of the text: The PostscriptType0 font that can be installed on the PSPNT can be installed directly from the PC or MAC, providing 748, GB, BIG5, and GBK encodings. When the output device connected to the PSPNT exceeds 1450 DPI, the party rhyme font cannot be used. Output.

Founder Tianshu: Same as the rhyme format, but it can be output on devices above 1450DPI. After installing the main body font or the Founder font, there are two subdirectories, Fonts and Fzdata, in the PSPNT directory.

Founder CID font library: PSPNT's proprietary font library provides 748, GB, BIG5, and GBK encoding formats, and provides a set of large fonts.
Founder CID fonts are installed by default in the PSPNT Font directory.
If the front-end layout software uses Fangzheng Lanting and Fangzhenghuai font library, the corresponding LanTing font library is not installed on the PSPNT, and in the "Reset" dialog box, the "Windows TrueType Font" option can be output. Similarly, it can also be used on the PSPNT. The Hanyi TrueType font library is installed on the host for output, but it should be noted that if the font is deformed in the front-end typesetting software (such as QuarkXpress, FreeHand), the output of the TrueType word or CID word will result in a syntax error.

When resetting fonts in PSPNT, there will be a sequence problem of font recognition. When the option “Use TrueType Fonts of Windows System” is selected, the TrueType word under Windows system is first recognized, and then the founder specified in the “font path” is recognized. For the CID and Type1 fonts, if third-party fonts such as Founder Tianshu, Fangyuan rhyme, and Hanyi PostscriptType0 are installed, the third-party character library, ie, the font under “PSPNT/Fonts” will be recognized. When the three format fonts have duplicate names, the last recognized font is used for output.

Second, the font classification in Feiteng

There are three types of fonts in Feiteng: System English, Founder Chinese, and System Chinese.

1, system English

Refers to the English fonts under windowsfonts (Win2000 is in winntfonts) directory. The characteristics of the English system are simply WYSIWYG. It can be used in software such as Feiteng, books, WORD, and Photoshop.

2, Founder Chinese

Founder company developed its own standard fonts, also known as 748 encoding fonts, such as "Song Song (Founder)" is Founder Chinese. The feature of Founder Chinese is that it is only applicable to Founder software and is not visible in non-Founder software, let alone used.

Another feature of Founder Chinese is that some fonts can be displayed realistically (this type of font needs to have a corresponding GBK font, such as "Song Song (Founder)). If there is an answer to the Song _GBK font library, then it is Can be displayed realistically, that is WYSIWYG), and some fonts cannot be displayed realistically. Only after generating the PS file, can it be known through the RIP software that its specific "what it looks like".

Many friends asked: Since Founder Chinese cannot be applied to other software, some fonts can't be displayed realistically. Why does it use it?

In fact, one of the biggest differences between Founder software and other typesetting software is that Founder has his own font, and the accuracy of the Founder font library is not available in other fonts.

To take a simple example, there are two lines of text, all of which are the “People's Republic of China”. All use the 5th character. One of them is “fine circle (Front), the other is “square shape”, and then the PS is generated. File, output with PSP31, what do you see? Try it.

3, system Chinese

Refers to Chinese fonts that conform to the unified national standards, ie Chinese fonts under the windowsfonts (Win2000 is in winntfonts) directory. System Chinese includes Windows' own fonts, Founder Lanting (ie, GB-encoded fonts), GBK fonts (9 or 10 with 46 versions, and only 9 Feiteng models), fonts from other manufacturers (such as Hanyi, Wending, etc.) Great Wall, Classics, etc.) System Chinese is characterized by WYSIWYG. Almost all graphic design software and typesetting software support system Chinese.
