Barrier cardboard container

In the past, low-density polyethylene (LDPE), as a paper container sealant, could not provide oxygen barrier properties and would inhale odors in fruit juices. Traditionally, the aluminum foil layer is used as a barrier for paper containers and appears in the following structure:

Aluminum foil provides excellent oxygen and moisture barrier properties. However, by the beginning of 1990, barrier plastic films began to replace aluminum foil. For high volume applications, the eval EVOH based coextrusion coating technology was first used in the U.S. market. This technology was then widely used in the European market in the late 1990s and has recently become popular in Japan, replacing aluminium foil laminated on cardboard. The eval EVOH-based paper container is the same as the roof-type carton used to contain milk for recycling. If aluminum foil is used, recycling of the paper containers becomes difficult.
The addition of the odor barrier film LDPE as a sealant layer provides good moisture barrier properties, but does not prevent the juice from infiltrating into the material. As a result, the juice degenerates over time, so the juice has a large demand for packaging materials, especially those that do not Reduces the taste of fresh juice packaging materials. Eval EVOH provides excellent odor barrier properties.
Nylon and PET films also have odor barrier properties but do not provide oxygen barrier properties such as eval EVOH. The odor barrier layer greatly facilitates the sale of fresh fruit juices because consumers have higher and higher quality and health requirements for fruit juices.
