Sleeping infants reduces the risk of sudden death

The Astrid Lindgren Children’s Hospital in Sweden has developed a series of studies on Sudden Infant Death Syndrome in Sweden and other countries in recent years and has advised the parents through the Swedish National Health Council that the baby should have a pacifier when sleeping or Sleeping alone in their bed, these two methods can reduce the risk of infant Sudden Death Syndrome by half.

According to Hugo Laggklantz, an expert at the hospital, when the baby sleeps on the same bed as the parents, the air in the room is too hot and the space is too small. The baby has little choice, which increases the risk of clogging the respiratory tract. "We particularly recommend that babies of ~months old sleep in their own bed."

Sudden infant death syndrome is the most common cause of neonatal death. It is more common in infants ~months old. The infant usually dies suddenly during sleep. The reason for this is not yet clear. Many studies consider prone sleep as a risk factor for sudden infant death syndrome. Other risk factors include maternal smoking during pregnancy, overheating in the room, and the use of wool mattresses.
